The year was 1967. The men numbered 31. They all had a common goal, to serve the foothill community. They stepped up to the plate and chartered the Ponderosa Lions Club on October 25, 1967. The North Fresno Lions sponsored the Club, and the Ponderosa Lions were off and running.
It is because of their dedication and determination that the club exists today. More importantly, the founding of the Ponderosa Lions Club has enabled us to reach out repeatedly to our friends and neighbors when they need a helping hand, a scholarship, glasses to see, and hearing aids to hear. These 31 men began a legacy that continues to serve our community today.
Over the past 40 years the Ponderosa Lions and their bright gold vests have become a visible reminder that there are people in our community who care. At present we have 27 active members (both male and female) and are looking to expand the membership. The Lions Club offers many ways to be an active part of our community and we encourage anyone interested to contact us.

Our association was founded in Chicago in 1917. Although we are one of the youngest service organizations, Lions Clubs International has grown to be the world's largest. It's more than 1.4 million members belong to local clubs in nearly every country in the world.
