Adopt A Highway Lions Elmo Canclini is in charge of our Adopt A Hwy program. He and his stalwart crew head out to Hwy 168 and Lodge Road once a month and spend a morning cleaning up our little section of road. The best part, other than the clean roadside, is the cuppa joe shared afterwards.
Paper Recycling
Lion Sonne Schultz is in charge of of our monthly paper recycling project. On the third Saturday of each month, armed with gloves and trailers, the Lion volunteers gather to collect papers. Drop off locations are at the post offices in Prather and Auberry from 9am-1pm. It's a lot of hard work, but provides the community with a way to recycle their newspaper, junk mail, and paper products without making the long trek to town. And did we mention that take bags of shredded paper? That's right, so do your part for the environment, by dropping your papers off at the Lions drop off the 3rd Saturday of each month! Eyeglasses collection. Our collection boxes can be found in various locations around our foothill community. In these we collect used eyeglasses to be sent to collection centers, refurbished and taken to developing nations with little or no access to basic eyecare. It seems like such a little thing to take our old glasses and drop them off in a cardboard box. Yet, to many in the world these same cast off eye glasses mean the ability see to read, to walk safely across a street, see the details of a loved ones face. Not such a little thing after all.
We've recently added ink cartridges to our list of recyclables. After noticing that some of us had these items lying around, taking up space in drawers, or on a shelf waiting to be taken to an office supply store in town, we thought, "why not?". A box is set out each month at the board meeting and everyone has the opportunity to drop their used ink cartridges in. As each box fills up, they are sent off for recycling. Pull tabs
One charity that always has a place in our hearts is the Ronald McDonald House. Saving pull tabs from soda and beer cans is an easy way to support the local Ronald McDonald House.
